Is YouTube Destined for the Dot-Com Graveyard?

YouTubeMoneyIn a post we published a few weeks ago called “How Long Will Your Free Content Ride Last,” we commented on blogger John Falls’ position that free content on the Internet can only last so long.

It seems that Falls was on to something with his post entitled “The Economy of Free is Stupid,” posted on his blog, Social Media Explorer.

In an article published the same day as our own post, Britain’s The Independent took aim at YouTube, the video juggernaut acquired by Google in 2006. The theory that this article, “How Can YouTube Survive?”, presents is that the video service is losing money – and fast. And if it weren’t for its parent company, Google, YouTube would have been dead in the water a few years ago.

Some key points The Independent sheds light on:

The Online Marketing Cash Funnel

What is the online marketing cash funnel you ask?  Simple: low-cost online marketing solutions that help your company meet and exceed its business objectives.

Though the Internet has been around for a long time, many companies are still struggling with how to take advantage of online marketing to improve their business.  For this reason, we decided to expose the elephant in the room and put together a survey to see how you could use online marketing to begin funneling success to your business.

When we recently surveyed 97 small businesses in and around New York, the overall question was simple: Is your website meeting your business objectives?  To answer, we asked these 97 businesses 9 important questions to discover whether the elephant was being ignored or whether it was being leveraged for success.

The results laid it out in plain English: Companies with Internet Marketing Strategies in place more often report that their website is meeting their business objectives.

A Little Strategy Goes a Long Way

Of companies that reported that their website was meeting business objectives, 53% update their website weekly, and 72% update their site at least monthly.  Whether or not SEO is part of their marketing strategy, frequent updates help keep search engines hungry and coming back for more.  Even more importantly, updates keep the site fresh and relevant, showing a visitor that behind this site is a company that is constantly innovating and improving.

Study Shows Demographic Differences in Internet Marketing Priorities

linked_in_logoA recent poll on LinkedIn, published by freelance marketing advisor Carlos Redlich, revealed some rather interesting results.

In an attempt to narrow the focus of an e-book he’s preparing, Redlich asked members of the professional networking site to answer the question “What Are Your Biggest Questions On Internet Marketing?” They had five categories from which to choose:

-Hypnotic Copywriting
-The All Mighty Salesletter
-Magnetic Marketing Strategies
-Organic SEO For Top Results
-I Want it ALL!

Not surprisingly, of the 182 people who participated in the poll (the number of respondents just before this post was published), 35% said they ‘Want it ALL,’ with another 25% preferring ‘Magnetic Marketing Strategies.’ The other half chose more specific interests as you’ll see on the graph after the jump.
