Does Your Company’s Graph, Poll or Chart Need a Makeover?

Make your visual aids more simple and easy-to-use.

Don’t you want to get rid of that bowl cut your friend has been sporting since 6th grade? Sometimes visual aids, like people, need a makeover. Among its many benefits, makeovers can give an unsightly graph a quick touch up, get rid of a poll’s unappealing colors or clear out a chart’s numerical clutter. The whole point of the makeover is to try and make what you have better than what it was before.

It is very important for businesses to make their visual aids very simple and easy-to-use so that audiences instantly understand the reason for them. If the visual aids are not easily understood companies risk having their audiences both miss the message and become alienated.

Get Your Message Across

The inspiration for this blog came as I was reading the daily news online. When I landed on the newsweek homepage, my eyes were drawn to a poll graph that asked whether I was or was not in support of the US bailout plan.

The Best and Worst Online B2C Practices to Boost ROI in 2009

Many online marketing companies want to know the numbers: what are the B2C (business to consumer) online marketing BEST practices to generate the greatest possible ROI?

Well look no further as we have numbers for your digestion.

Business to Consumer Marketing Best Practices

Business to Consumer Marketing Best Practices

According to a year-end survey by marketingsherpa, B2C marketers responded that house email, SEO and paid search earned the highest ROI in the 4th Quarter of 2008. B2C marketers plan on increasing their budgets in these 3 areas of best practice.

The worst ROI happens to be the little blue blip at the bottom of the chart. Pop-ups and pop-unders are known as display advertising to the marketing world and confounded nuisances to the rest of the world. Surprisingly, only 30% to 40% of B2C online marketers ranked pop-ups and pop-unders as a best practice for ROI.

This chart should serve as a beacon for online marketers currently planning and revising 2009 budgets. Just follow the blue, brown, orange, pink, green and purple. It’s that simple.

2008 Internet Marketing Blog Award

Champagne, Toast and Good Fortune!

And so it was unveiled in the benevolent ribbon of 2009 that our October blog, “Is Your Blog Going for the Gold?” has been named one of the Best Internet Marketing posts of 2008.

To refresh your memory, the article examined the best practices of positive social-media marketing, specifically discussing how Kodak was able to leverage the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games through its blogging efforts. Blogging not only allowed Kodak to create and control the communication of tight-nit communities passionate about the Olympics, but also empowered its employees to be able to write and discuss the topics that mattered most to them. In effect, a nice double play for the point-and-shoot giant.

Thank you Tamar Weinberg at Techipedia for recognizing us with this award. And a deep thank you to all of our readers for all of your support. Without you, there’s no us.

Poll: Best Week for E-Commerce Holiday Sales

pollbadgeWe’ve written a lot about holiday marketing lately, and we figured it’s time to find out how other online marketers are faring in the face of the financial crunch.

As we previously reported, Cyber Monday made gains this year, but according to industry analysts the highest sales of the season may not have come until earlier this week. Still, while conjecture and hypothesis is valuable, we’d like to get real results from real marketers .

Did you launch an e-campaign to boost holidays sales? Did you see more traffic on Cyber Monday versus Dec. 15 or later? Or maybe the week of Dec. 8 fared more favorable for you. Take our poll and let us know which week received the highest response rates for your campaigns.

A Little Holiday Gratitude Can Go a Long Way

UPDATED:  WE thought we should add our own holiday greeting email for you to see:

Internet Marketing Firm Holiday Greeting

Internet marketing at holiday time isn’t just about percentages off and free-shipping coupon codes.

Sometimes (biiiiig emphasis on sometimes), customers are content with a greeting that simply shows a measure of gratitude for their loyalty.

Take a look at our first example below. It’s a newsletter-type e-mail that we sent on behalf of The Coleman Center, a client that offers meeting space within its Manhattan-based meeting and conference center.

The Coleman Center isn’t a client for which we send e-mail discounts on their services. Their business just doesn’t lend itself to that kind of marketing. But, because its guests extend a generous amount of resources to hold their meetings at the center, we decided that a holiday greeting was in order to show appreciation. With an open rate of 26.8%, this campaign was a success in spreading cheer and well wishes while helping keep the center on the minds of its constituents.

The second holiday message we sent was for a new client called Air Charter Services. ACS approached us with a general idea for a humorous greeting. After our illustrator created the art, we wrote several funny tag lines, ultimately settling on the copy below.
