Pop, Pop, PhizzPop

Microsoft has had more misses than hits lately – problem-plagued Vista; the slow release of Surface; those Jerry Seinfeld commercials – but just because the comp-tech corporation is down doesn’t mean it’s out.

Last year, Microsoft launched PhizzPop, a site that allows companies that build Web 2.0-enhanced software to exchange ideas, network, browse job postings, and engage in a host of other related activities. Online Video Advertising Killed the Television Commercial Star

Hear that sound?

It’s eMarketer trumpeting the future of online video advertising in two new reports issued in as many days.

In one report, the daily trend-analysis newsletter projects video ad spending to reach $5.8 billion by 2013, an increase of more than 1,000 percent from 2008. In another projection, eMarketer suggests that 183.3 million Internet users will view online video ads five years from now, up from 129.5 million viewers this year.

Honesty is the best policy.

It’s a tired expression, for sure. But when it comes to social media marketing, there’s not a cliché you’ll hold dearer when the whistleblowers come a-calling.

Just ask Wal-Mart, whose never-ending PR problems worsened when a blog called “Walmarting Across America,” allegedly dedicated to the RV travels of an American couple with an affinity for squatting in the superstore’s parking lots, was uncovered as a fake.
