Barak Obama Wants You to Vote… and Blog

Some polls show that Barak Obama is doing better than John McCain when it comes to younger voters for the 2008 presidential election. According to Newsweek:

Overall, voters see Obama as the preferred agent of “change” by a margin of 51 percent to 27 percent. Younger voters, in particular, are more likely to see Obama that way: those 18 to 39 favor the Illinois senator by 66 percent to 27 percent.

Firefox 3.0 Got the "Colbert Bump"

Back in June, Firefox 3.0 got some free publicity on its release date because Jonathan Zittrain mentioned it during his interview on the show, The Colbert Report. Zittrain is a professor and a researcher of the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard Law School, which investigates Internet policies. His new book, The Future of the Internet and How to Stop It, focuses on what Zittrain believes to be disturbing web trends that threaten future innovation on the Internet. You're Welcome: Here's… Mahalo

Previously, we discussed the helpfulness of directories and shared some tips on how to avoid being labeled a spammer. Now, we show you the first “human-powered” search engine/directory that strives to be spam-free. Mahalo (“thank you” in Hawaiian) arrived in early 2007, and it has been in beta mode since January 2008. Unlike search engines such as Google, the quality of links is not determined by algorithms. Human editors make conclusions about the quality of submissions made by users. And aside from browsing the directory, a visitor can search a keyword on Mahalo, and view a search engine result page with categorized information.

Stop Poking Me: Spamming on Networking Sites

Sometimes, so-called “controversies” are overblown by the media. The topic of online privacy on social networks, however, is not one of those cases.

Here’s a personal vignette to share: just this week, I found a friend request from someone I have already friended. It was a curious thing, and then I scrolled down to see that the friend in question posted a warning on his status update feature: “My name and photo have been hijacked to create a FAKE second profile.
